The Buffoon

1st – 5th April 2023
(including arrival and departure dates)

With Maria Codinachs and Marian Masoliver.

Lecoq defined buffoons as “those who don’t care about anything and laugh at everything”. This heightened style was developed by the theatre master Jacques Lecoq during the seventies. Yet, it could not be more current today!

Whilst having fun, buffoons ruthlessly criticize humanity’s failures and dreams by telling the shocking truth…

  • The ‘mask’ of the Buffoon
  • Parody and The Grotesque
  • The Underworld
  • The Mysterious: Prophets, Angels and Demons
  • Buffoons and text
  • Creating you own buffoon
  • Gangs, choruses and the anti-hero
  • Public presentations

Who is this workshop for?

Actors, drama students, drama teachers, writers and directors will all find this course to be a great resource in their work.

This daring and physical approach will allow all participants to benefit by getting into their bodies and exploring their full physical comic potential.

Professional actors will find this work intensive and refreshing, the workshop will help them explore new areas of themselves and their art.

Writers and directors will discover the ‘shared poetic depths’ and will clarify what they want to say.

Teachers of drama will be immersed in ’play’ and will learn new techniques and exercises based on Lecoq’s training that they can use in their acting classes.
