This workshop is for directors, actors, drama students, drama teachers and writers who want develop their directing skills professionally for theatre or film.
You as a director will develop your own approach to creating drama or comedy, confidently guided by intuition and imagination but always within a solid structure.
This unique workshop offers a ‘hands on’ practical experience where directors get to work on set with actors and new writing.
- Learn how to devise scenes.
- Learn how to work up scripts.
- Learn how to recognise good writing and develop it.
- Experience what it is like to be directed so you get a clear understanding of what actors need.
- Get a practical, hands on experience of the ‘Creative Triangle’: Writing, Acting, Directing.

Directors need to create a space and inspire an atmosphere where creative risks can be taken, without fear of failure and where effort and achievement can be recognised.
What is the role of a director?
- Identify Dramatic motors / Dramatic situations.
- Work with scripts – understand about text and subtext.
- Discover The ‘game’ and the ‘gap’.
- Work with Conscious vs Unconscious – Characters motivation.
- Direct the scene and the ‘unseen’.
- Write and direct writing.
- Teamwork – ‘team works’!
In this workshop we cover the fundamentals of theatre and film directing.
